Many times we talk about the advantages of recycling, however the most important thing is to understand what will happen if we don’t recycle with our planet and how it would harm us in our health and environment.
This Sunday the 17th is Recycling Day and it is essential to remember that we must integrate this practice into our way of life.
Excessive accumulation of waste
First, if the thousands of waste we generate each year is not recycled, we are reducing the space available within garbage dumps.
Greenhouse gases
The most well-known gases are methane and carbon dioxide. These gases are the biggest drivers of global warming and are mostly man-made.
Methane, for example, is common in the decomposition of material from our waste. In terms of carbon dioxide, humans contribute mainly to the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) and in deforestation. This directly affects the temperature of the planet, causing variations in the climate. This is commonly referred to as climate change, which directly affects global warming.
Limited resources
There will come a time when we will have no natural resources left. Many of the materials we use in our daily lives are born of natural resources that can subsequently once again have a second life by recycling them. If we do not, they will be scarce materials and as a result will increase their costs so much that in many parts of the world could disappear.
Deforestation
In parallel with the previous point, there would be no choice but to increase deforestation to obtain more material, such as wood. This has a direct impact on animal and plant species living in their habitats.
Decreasing use of fossil fuels
Fossil fuels are non-renewable materials, so they must be consumed wisely. The higher their consumption, the faster they will run out. Fortunately many companies are already betting on eco-friendly packaging, however, this measure comes after millions of tons of plastics have ended up in our oceans. These are some of the most obvious effects that we will have to face and that will happen if we do not recycle. We have plenty of reasons to do so, and it is also a practice that must be instilled as children.
